Yikes. Bette Midler Tweets "Women are the N-Word of the World," Sparking Outrage.

By any metric, Bathhouse Betty took it too far this time.

Bette Midler incurred the wrath of the internet and beyond with a tweet that can be called, at best, insensitive and woefully misjudged.

Last night, in light of admittedly infuriating current headlines, the 72-year-old LGBT icon posted a since-deleted tweet saying:

“Women, are the n-word of the world. Raped, beaten, enslaved, married off, worked like dumb animals; denied education and inheritance; enduring the pain and danger of childbirth and life IN SILENCE for THOUSANDS of years They are the most disrespected creatures on earth.”

In fairness, the cringe-inducing phrase comes from a 1972 song by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Still, Midler didn’t do herself any favors so much as dig a deeper grave in her first attempt to explain/excuse herself, tweeting:

"I gather I have offended many by my last tweet. 'Women are the...etc' is a quote from Yoko Ono from 1972, which I never forgot. It rang true then, and it rings true today, whether you like it or not. This is not about race, this is about the status of women; THEIR HISTORY."

That tweet got deleted too, replaced with this:

Across the board, responses have been varying degrees of damning and outraged.

“What in the unholy hell?” tweeted professor Nina Turner. “This right here is unacceptable and unbelievable. Black-folks were chattel for 250 years on this soil. Innate humanity denied generation after generation. In 2019, it will be 400 yrs since the first 20 Africans were forced here. Don’t ever!”

“No. A million times no,” tweeted Julia Peacock, a Democratic candidate for California’s U.S. House seat. Good lord, when will we stop pretending we don’t have privilege? My skin is white; doors open for me that WILL NEVER OPEN for WOC. Stop, stop, stop. Never. This. Comparison. Ever.”

Some are demanding that Midler donate to a charity benefiting women of color as an amends.

In a career spanning almost fifty years, Midler has won three Grammys, four Golden Globes, three Emmys, and two Tonys. She has sold over 30 million records worldwide.

We're In Love With The Sassy And Gay Netflix Canada Twitter Account

Does Netflix have a gay account? It looks like it.

The Netflix Canada Twitter account has declared itself the gay account for all of us to love and enjoy, according to Hornet.

One random Twitter user was curious why they were seeing two different Twitter accounts for the company, Netflix and Netflix Canada.

The real reason is because Netflix has Twitter accounts for several countries where it streams. This includes a UK account, an India account, and a Canada account.

But the Netflix Canada account had a much more interesting answer for Twitter users, “Because we’re the gay one.”

While that may seem like a funny and random comment, it seems like whomever is running that social media account is committed to keeping that persona.

On the Twitter bio, the account is described as a, “dedicated Cate Blanchett and Choni fan account. The gay Canadian one.”

Not only does the account celebrate an identity as “the gay Canadian one,” but it also openly professes its love of lesbian Riverdale couple Choni? Ok, you've got us.

It seems the fun only starts there though, as the account is full of witty humor that just solidifies that a gay man is driving the wheel behind the screen.

Conservative Activist Linda Harvey Says Gay Sex Ed Is Wrong Because It Leads To Oral Sex

Poor straight people. According to a conservative activist, they are not get enough head.

As shared over at JoeMyGod, Anti-LGBTQ activist Linda Harvey has popped up on the internet again to share more hateful rhetoric.

We won’t share too many details about who Harvey is, simply because we’d then be promoting her, but know that she’s a very vocal and angry advocate for extreme conservative views. If you’re thinking, “Why are you spreading hate or giving her a platform?” Well, it’s mostly because what Harvey says is so stupid that it’s funny.

Recently Harvey wrote an article on Barbwire titled Kids Tutored in "Pleasure" Despite STD Epidemic, itself incredibly conservative, to rant about how teens are having sex and dancing with the devil (I’m paraphrasing, of course).

While all that’s pretty standard for conservative rhetoric, it’s these next few words that caused a few social media posts and articles to pop up as a response.

“Let’s not forget the deadly contribution of ‘LGBTQ’ advocates who demand ‘inclusive’ sex ed — i.e., lessons that outline in detail how kids can engage in anal and oral sex, the sex practices of homosexuals,” she wrote.

She then said:

“These lessons often encourage masturbation and pornography use. The “gay” community explodes over any attempt to restrict homosexual access to youth. But the evidence is everywhere that their influence is despicable.”

She added:

“Responsibility in sex is unpopular among today’s ‘hip’ educators. Bowing to social justice warriors, rabid feminists and ‘LGBTQ’ advocates, abstinence is discarded as the equivalent of racism. Never mind that this reasoning is short on reality and long on mythology.”

Of course, many people on the internet had a few thoughts on these words from the queen of hate-mongering.

What should our kids be taught in sex education? Clearly Linda Harvey has no clue.

Alex Jones Has Been Removed From Twitter Forever, Following Outbursts in D.C.

Enough is enough. At least Twitter seems to think so.

Full-time conspiracy theorist, Info Wars host and at least part-time trans porn enthusiast Alex Jones was permanently banned from the social media platform on Thursday.

The official accounts for Info Wars and Jones himself were also removed from Twitter-owned Periscope. In a series of tweets from the Twitter Safety account, the company cited Jones’s violations of Twitter’s abusive behavior policies and past violations as grounds for the ban.

On Wednesday, Jones made a spectacle of himself in D.C., yelling at a CNN reporter and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, altercations he streamed live on Periscope.

You see, Jones is on Capitol Hill because he thinks he should have been invited to testify at this week’s tech hearings in the Senate, along with execs from Google, Facebook and Twitter. Jones’s bread-and-butter is getting people to believe that he’s a truth-teller and that’s why the government wants to silence him.

Jones made bizarre headlines on Wednesday when he got into a physical altercation with Marco Rubio in the halls of Congress. He patted the shoulder of the Florida Republican, trying to get a rise out of him. Rubio’s response: “Get your hand off me. Don’t touch me again, man."

Let’s be real, Twitter: it took you way too long to pull the plug on this fear-monger. He was banned on iTunes, Spotify, Facebook and YouTube already. This doesn’t exactly make you look good by comparison, but at least it’s done.

As we’ve reported in the past, Alex Jones is the man New York magazine christened “America’s leading conspiracy theorist.” He’s aggressively opposed to even minimal gun control, he has loudly proclaimed that the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting, which left 28 people including 20 young children dead, was fake and never actually happened. For this and other offenses, he’s currently entangled in numerous defamation lawsuits.

He also claims that the U.S. government was behind the Oklahoma City bombing, and the September terror attacks. And of course he says the 1969 Moon landing was staged.

Following the ban, Jones posted a video on InfoWars' website, saying:

"I was taken down, not because we lied but because we tell the truth and because we were popular. And because we dared go to that committee hearing and stand up to Rubio and stand up to the lies of mainstream media and speak the truth. ...This is the deep state striking back and really pressuring these tech firms to censor."

Are you enjoying watching his drawn-out downfall, or do you just wish he would disappear forever? Like, evaporate? Let us know in the comments.

Retired Wrestler Matt Cage Posted Double Date Selfies With His Dad And Their Boyfriends

Retired wrestler Matt Cage went on a double date with his dad and the picture from it are absolutely adorable.

Matt Cage is a 30-year-old retired pro wrestler who also happens to be openly gay.

In 2015, Cage came out through a Facebook post. In part of the post he wrote:

“For the longest time, I claimed that I was bisexual. When I privately came out to people that already know, I told them that this was the case. And it was. However, I have no real intentions of pursuing females at this stage of my life. I still find beautiful women beautiful. I don't think that'll ever change. But I think that to continue to claim something that's not true is just continuing a streak dishonesty and I don't want that. Sorry, ladies. I'm officially pulling myself off of the market. Don't hate me too bad.”

Now according to Queerty and Cage’s Twitter account, Cage recently posted pictures of himself, his father, and their two boyfriends out on a double date.

“My dad and his boyfriend came to Chicago to visit me and my boyfriend,” wrote Cage for the post.

While Cage’s post received a large response by the internet as with over 11 thousand likes, 3 thousand retweets, and 3,000 comments, a lot of it was negative.

Unfortunately, some homophobes found the tweet and expressed confusion at how Cage’s father could have gave birth to him if both are gay.

Cage responded by saying, “I love that some people are so ignorant or stupid, that they can’t wrap their mind around the fact that a gay man (or woman) can still have a child. As if the reproductive system doesn’t exist.”

That said, there was a lot of kindness and positivity that gravitated to the tweet as well.

Online Trolls Say Belfast Primark Fire Was Caused By God's Wrath Against Gays

Homophobes and the religious intolerant are using a recent fire to spread homophobic rhetoric.

On Tuesday (August 29), a sudden blaze broke out at the Primark building in Belfast, North Ireland. The 233-year-old building went up in smoke, but 80 firefights fought to make sure that the fire didn’t spread to any other buildings, according to Metro.

While the building didn’t entirely burn down, experts are currently investigating what caused the fire and if the building’s structure is damaged beyond repair.

As that is going on, homophobes have already taken to the internet to use this as an excuse to share hateful words. How do they figure the fire is in anyway related to LGBTQ people? One store window included Pride merchandise.

“Primark in Belfast up in flames,” wrote one person in a now deleted Twitter post, “Galatians 6:7 comes to mind… ‘Be not deceived: God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.’”

“@Primark supported wickedness via it’s shop window a few weeks ago in Belfast,” wrote another.

A third remarked, “Reminds me of our Trinitarian God who burnt not just a shop, but a whole city to a crisp.’”

In response to all this, the Northern Ireland Humanists group released the following statement:

“We have already noticed comments like ‘you reap what you sow’ in response to the Primark Belfast building having an extremely destructive fire.”

“This is because Primark had created a rainbow window presentation in support of Pride Belfast this year. ‘We know this is not the feelings of most Christians, but we would ask you, religious or not, to call out this homophobic rhetoric where you find it.”

“We hope those employed by “Primark are being helped while out of work. And we also hope the building will be rebuilt as it is one of Belfast’s most beautiful.”

Shane Cook Shares, Despite Embarrassment, That He Has Stage 2 Cancer

Helix Studios performer Shane Cook has shared some unfortunate news.

Yesterday, Cook posted a picture of himself on Twitter. He started the caption for the post by sharing that he was embarrassed about something for the past 3 to 4 months.

Cook then elaborated by saying that he's been fighting stage 2 Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer for the past few months.

He then added:

“I’ve had some hair loss and I’ve lost muscle but I haven’t lost anything that I won’t be able to get back and some so I’m goi g to keep doing what I need to do for myself and look forward to filming later on! [sic]"

While we’re glad to hear that Shane Cook is confidently fighting against the disease, we want to reaffirm (for him and any viewer who reads this) that there is no shame in fighting cancer. Side-effects like weight or hair loss may happen, but the important thing is the persistence to live.

In addition, we'd like to add that there are many ways that we can all fight cancer (and specifically lymphoma). One such way is to donate to causes like the Lymphoma Research Foundation and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Our wishes of love and support go out to Shane Cook and to anyone else fighting cancer.

White Sox Pitcher Michael Kopech Admits Hiding Old Homophobic Tweets

Hide your tweets, hide your updates. People are digging up old social media posts.

That said, this witch hunt doesn’t come up empty as now the fourth major league baseball player in two months has been connected to racist and homophobic tweets.

The baseball player of the hour this time is White Sox pitcher Michael Kopech who was caught deleting racist and homophobic tweets he made back in 2013 after screenshots of the tweets were spread online.

Again, the tweets were made in 2013 when Kopech was 17 (he’s now 22). As for the contents, they included stupid comments connecting Mexicans to rapists (sounds familiar) and upholding the whole “that’s gay” mentality.

The tweets are stupid and childish, and Kopech agrees. He says that’s why he deleted them. To explain further why he deleted the tweets, Kopech spoke to the Chicago Sun-Times.

"I had to delete some stuff," he told them. "Things I said that were immature and inappropriate. I used some poor language in there. Obviously, I'm trying to be looked at as a role model and the last thing I want to do is have some kid look at what I'm saying and take it the wrong way.

"It's unfortunate that I was ever at that point mentally, but it's not who I am now. Yeah, I cleaned some tweets up and tried to get rid of them. But, obviously, people saw them. It's not who I am now and it's not who I want to be. It was something I did in high school, and with everything I've gone through in pro ball the last five seasons I feel like a big part of my career was maturing. Hate to see it, but it's not who I am anymore."

While deleting the tweets were clearly just an attempt to save face and clearly the tweets were the stupid words of an immature teenager, they still have some pretty hurtful messages. Especially the one about Mexicans.

But question is, are they worth arguing over five years later? What do you think?

ASOS's New Men's Crop Top Confused And Excited The Internet

Lately, several men have confidently photographed themselves strutting around in crop tops. In order to keep up with the fashion trend, fashion retailer ASOS recently released a new product.

The above £10 crop top was released on the retailer's website. The very short shirt barely covers the nipples and is styled much like shirts worn by Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid.

last night

A post shared by Kendall (@kendalljenner) on

After being released for sale, the crop top quickly became a talking point on social media. Many twitter users were perplexed by the outfit while others thought it was all in good fun and fashion.

As for those who thought the top was nothing but a joke, it seems the joke’s on them as the crop top is already out of stock.

Whether you're a fan or not, it looks like the crop top is the new romper. It's a conversation piece, a fashion trend, and viral trend all in one.

Gay Twitter Had A Field Day After An Article Blamed Lack Of Interest In Boobs For Failing Hooters Chain

Despite Twitter being a place full of political disputes, and possibly becoming more chaotic with forced opposing views, it’s also a place with lots of viral trends and jokes.

One of the latest jokes came out of responses to a Complex article.

According to Pink News, Complex wrote an article stating that Hooters is closing down many of its locations and then makes the statement that it’s because many millennials are losing interest in boobs.

As stupid as that assumption sounds, it’s also a great setup for a viral trend and joke.

Several millennials jumped on the bandwagon of responding that millennials are gay AF now and love c***, or just enjoy a** nowadays.

Here are some of our favorite tweets.

Keep in mind, Hooters may be closing down, or not according to its Twitter account which is calling Complex fake news, but male equivalent Boxers is thriving.

The gay owned and focused sports bar is much like Hooters (in that the staff all wear very revealing clothing), but is focused on men.

“As the gay community has continued its migration, so has Boxers,” co-owner Bob Fluet explained to Hornet back in January. “We’re a place to hang out with friends, relax, have fun, listen to great music, catch a sports game, eat, mingle or watch an episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race. We also strive to bring greater visibility to the gay community in each neighborhood we serve.”

So far, the chain has multiple locations in New York City and one in Philadelphia. But with its success leading to two freshly opened locations earlier this year, there’s a strong chance the chain will branch out to more cities in the future.

It sounds like millennials will be all over that.
