The Trevor Project Donated 100 Gay "Marlon Bundo" Books To Karen Pence's Workplace

The gay bunny book has come back again.

Earlier this week, news spread that Karen Pence, wife to US Vice President Mike Pence, teaches art at a school that bans LGBTQ students.

Now in response to that news, the Trevor Project has announced that it’s donating 100 copies of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver Presents A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo to the Immaculate Christian School.

Along with the large donation came a note saying:

“Please accept our gift of ‘A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo’ books, which you may include in your school’s library or classrooms, and share with your family and friends. Combined with school policy changes, we believe these books can help encourage acceptance of LGBTQ young people among your community, and they can be a great first step to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all students.”

The copies should arrive later this week, according to a Trevor Project spokesperson who spoke to the Washington Post.

A post shared by Marlon Bundo (Pence) (@marlonbundo) on

Marlon Bruno is the pet rabbit belonging to the Pence family.

Charlotte Pence, daughter to Mike and Karen, originally penned a children’s book about Marlon Bundo. The book explores the life of a rabbit living in Washington D.C. and at Number One Observatory Circle (the official home of the Vice President).

Proceeds from the book were also given to charities such as Tracy’s Kids and A21, an art program for children and an organization that fights human trafficking.

Then to egg-on Mike Pence, late night show host John Oliver created a parody book along with writer Jill Twiss and illustrator Eg Keller. The book titled “A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo” featured the same bunny but this time with him getting married to a male bunny named Wesley. Proceeds from that book were then donated to the Trevor Project and AIDS United.

While the spoof was ultimately made to antagonize her father and make a joke of her original story, Charlotte Pence later complimented Oliver’s efforts. She especially noted how the two books about bunnies were helping several charities.

But that good faith and mature outlook was not shared by enemies of Pence as the book continues to be used as a tool to mock the family. Not only was the book donated in this most recent development, but Will And Grace creator Max Mutchnik did the same last March.

Mutchnik donated a gay Marlon Bundo book to every elementary school in Pence’s home state of Indiana.

With each donated book there included a letter saying, “I would like to donate this copy of A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo to your library. After hearing about the book, I brought it home and read it to my twin daughters. It's a poignant story about how love and community can rise above intolerance.”

While both of these donations acted as a poke at the Pence family and their open anti-gay hate, they also doubled as an opportunity to spread LGBTQ representation in places where such content is often banned or censored.

But will these schools receive these donations as such or just as the condescending joke found at the surface? We’ll see what happens with the latest delivery in short time.

This Red State with a GOP House, Senate, & Governor May Pass LGBT Protection Bill.

For the first time, Indiana's governor is stating out loud their support for LGBT protection, support for legislation that would give judges power to impose tougher sentences on convicted persons for crimes motivated by factors such as race, religion, sex, gender identity and sexual orientation.  But hat is the big issue with this proposal? It is whether protections should be extended to the transgender community.

The biggest push for this law to include the entire LGBT/Queer community is from businesses.  Tourism leaders and many businesses are making their cases for hate crimes language to provide protections for gender identity. Indy Chamber, Visit Indy, Eli Lilly, the Pacers, and other groups and businesses are speaking up and signing letters emphasizing what they want to see the legislature produce.

One of the roadblocks may be House Speaker, Brian Bosma, who has gone on record to state that gender identity should cannot be a part of the protected classes if there is any hope for the crime law to pass since social conservatives at the Statehouse won’t negotiate or vote for the measure if gender identity is a part of any proposal.

What needs to be known about Indiana is that both the Senate and House are controlled by the Republicans.  Also, the Governor is a Republican.

A debate over bias crimes legislation like this could further highlight the fractures in the Indiana Republican party since he Governor is supporting including all in this new bill and protection.

Gov. Eric Holcomb has stated on record that he believes the state’s hate crime language needs to include all LGBT community members, just as the executive branch’s employment policy does.

The new legislative session commences on Jan. 3.

Will all eyes be on the very republican Indiana?  Bosma recently ridiculed the new protection policy proponents to not bring "undue attention to our state" over specifics in the hate crime bill.

Indiana is one of just five states without a hate crimes law.

VP Mike Pence Distorts Trump Record On HIV/AIDS, Fails To Mention LGBTQ Community Again

In advance of the 30th observance of World AIDS Day (December 1), Vice President Mike Pence spoke at a White House event where he boasted of the current administration’s ‘accomplishments’ on HIV/AIDS.

Since 1988, December 1 has been acknowledged as a day dedicated to raising aware of the AIDS pandemic that has claimed more than 35 million lives worldwide.

Pence’s speech was filled with wild inaccuracies as he attempted to credit Donald Trump with bringing “a renewed energy and focus” to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

That statement alone represents the height of hypocrisy.

Celebrating the 15th anniversary of PEPFAR (President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief), Pence told the audience at the event that the president plans on signing a bill soon that will reauthorize the program.

What he didn’t mention is that Trump’s own budget proposal called for a 17% reduction in funding for the program, in addition to $425 million to be cut from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.

Hailing the success of the Ryan White HIV/AIDS program, which provides health coverage for low-income people with HIV/AIDS, the Vice President failed to tell the crowd that the administration diverted funds from the program this year to help pay for separating families at the Mexican border.

Additionally, the president fired the remaining 16 members of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS after 6 prominent members resigned over his indifference to the issue.

In the nearly two years since Trump took office, no one has been appointed to lead the White House Office of National AIDS Policy. How do you take credit for ‘renewed energy and focus’ when you haven’t even asked someone to lead the charge against the disease?

Then there’s the “Deploy or Get Out” policy which could mean the discharge of HIV+ U.S. military service members. The policy, announced in February of this year, directed the Pentagon to remove any military personnel who are considered undeployable to serve outside of the U.S. for 12 consecutive months “for any reason.”

And, for the second year in a row, at no time did Pence, nor any other White House official, acknowledge the disproportionate impact HIV/AIDS has had on the LGBTQ community.

Even going back to before Pence’s time in the current administration, there was his woeful record as a congressman and governor of Indiana on the issue of HIV.

Running for congress in 2000, his campaign website stated that funds from the Ryan White program should be “Directed toward those institutions which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior.”

As Governor of Indiana, Pence opposed a needle exchange program which would have slowed HIV infections in rural counties in his state. It was only after 200 people became infected in just one county that he allowed the program to be implemented.

Chad Griffin, president of the Human Rights Campaign, tweeted his criticism of the speech, calling out Pence’s hypocrisy and misinformation:

And longtime LGBTQ activist and author Michelangelo Signorile pulled no punches in his assessment of Pence’s remarks:

Trump Administration Siphoning HIV/AIDS Funding For Child Detention Centers

As the public battle about family separations at the U.S. southern border rages on, reports show the Trump administration is taking money from HIV/AIDS programs to fund further separations.

The Office of Refugee Resettlement is looking ahead at the possibility that 25,450 more beds for immigrant children could be needed by year’s end.

The office, part of the Department of Health and Human Services, was apparently surprised when U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the new “zero tolerance” policy that families would be separated if caught crossing the border without authorization.

Under the policy, parents are imprisoned and children have been placed in cages that Sen. Jeff Merkley, who visited a facility, described as resembling “dog kennels.”

Now, in preparation for a new surge of family separations, the HHS is not only asking for supplemental funds, but according to Slate is also planning to reallocate money from the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program.

The Ryan White CARE Act was introduced in 1990 by Sen. Ted Kennedy weeks after the death of its namesake Ohio teen, who had been infected with HIV via a blood transfusion to treat his hemophilia. The bill was signed into law by President George H.W. Bush.

According to the program’s website, the Ryan White HIV/AIDS program “provides a comprehensive system of care that includes primary medical care and essential support services for people living with HIV who are uninsured or underinsured.”

Slate’s reporting indicates the process of transferring those HIV/AIDS funds has already begun.

This is just one more example of the Trump/Pence administration's bias against the LGBTQ community which is massively impacted by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Vice President MikePence famously pledged to siphon funding from the program in order to fund state-sponsored ‘gay cure’ therapy.

On his 2000 Congressional campaign website, Pence posted:

“Congress should support the reauthorization of the Ryan White Care Act only after completion of an audit to ensure that federal dollars were no longer being given to organisations that celebrate and encourage the types of behaviours that facilitate the spreading of the HIV virus.

“Resources should be directed toward those institutions which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior.”

Additionally, HHS is moving $79 million from refugee resettlement programs. The loss of those funds will undercut medical assistance and social services for refugees in the United States.

Openly Gay Rep Brian Sims Gave Vice President Mike Pence The Middle Finger

Bless Brian Sims.

Brian Sims is the first openly gay lawmaker for the state of Pennsylvania.

Many in Pennsylvania, and Philadelphia especially, were abuzz when the news came that Vice President Mike Pence would be visiting the city.

The House of Representatives member in the 182nd district was no different, and he decided to greet Pence in the best way possible.

In a Facebook post, Sims “welcomed.” Pence to the city of Philadelphia… with a raised middle finger.

The post says:

“OFFICIAL WELCOME: Vice President Mike Pence let me be the first person to officially welcome you to the City of Brotherly Love, and to my District in the State House!

“To be clear, we’re a City of soaring diversity. We believe in the power of all people to live and to contribute: Black, Brown, Queer, Trans, Atheist, Immigrant, we want you and we’ll respect you.

“So keep that in mind while you’re here raising money to attack more families, spread more lies, blaspheme with your bible, and maybe even talk to a woman without your wife in the room.

“We have plenty of them, and they’re pretty much all more powerful and more real than you have ever been.

“So…get bent, then get out!”

Rep. Brian Sims has been known before for fighting homophobic bullies. Back in April, he had to deal with a fellow Pennsylvanian State Rep named Daryl Metcalfe calling him a “Lying Homosexual.” Sims responded by turning his “bigoted colleague” Metcalfe’s attack into a plug for support against homophobia and bigotry in the US Capital.

As for Pence, he is known for his anti-gay rule making from back when he was the governor of Indiana.

The Human Rights Campaign recently released a report that alleges the behind the scenes action Pence has made before and during the Trump administration against LGBTQ people.

The report encompasses his support for gay ‘cure’ therapy, his signing of a controversial Indiana law that gave businesses the right to discriminate, and his work on the religious freedom movement while in the White House.

Mike Pence's Wife is a Fan of "Queer Eye," Says Karamo Brown

In a recent interview with Vulture, Queer Eye’s culture expert Karamo Brown dropped a bombshell: Mike Pence’s wife is a fan of the Netflix show.

Brown revealed he met with Karen Pence and her chief of staff to “discuss arts but also speak about LGBT issues.”

Brown clarified that while the second lady didn’t tell him she’s a fan directly, some of her staffers told him she is a fan of the show.

In the interview, hair expert Jonathan Van Ness was too quick to interject once the Pences became a part of the conversation. “She’s our biggest fan,” said Van Ness. She watches it every night. Her and dad like to watch it every night in their modesty outfits. But they watch it completely separated because it’s improper to look at each other face to face when you watch gay men.”

“There’s something about the Pences, I just freak out,” Van Ness said as Brown tried to elaborate. “She doesn’t like you, girl! She don’t like us.”

“No matter if someone has personal feelings about my sexuality or how they view me,” Brown said. “It’s all of our job to continue to show up in spaces where we can say, ‘You know what? I can figure out how to try to work with you.’ ”

Van Ness apologized for his interruptions at the end of the video interview. “I’m sorry I made fun of the Pences so much,” he said. “I’m sure you guys are like, super nice.”

Mike Pence is, of course, notoriously anti-gay. He has repeatedly voted against anti-hate crime legislation in Congress, and he’s expressed support for amending the Constitution to ban same-sex marriage. Pence also has allegedly expressed support for conversion therapy in the past. And his on-again off-again spat with Olympian Adam Rippon is a always entertaining.

It looks like the video interview we’re quoting has been removed or made private on YouTube. Here’s more of the interview with Vulture, but with no naming names. The second season of Queer Eye is now streaming on Netflix.

A Big Gay Dance Party Will Welcome Mike Pence to Columbus, Ohio

On Friday, a big gay dance party will welcome Vice President Mike Pence to Columbus, Ohio.

That afternoon, Pence is scheduled to headline an event hosted by conservative nonprofit America First Policies at the Renaissance Columbus Downtown Hotel.

Sponsored in part by ProgressOhio, the event officially titled Big LGBTQ Dance Party will transpire from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. just outside the hotel, and will feature DJ Moxy, drag queens and more. Nearly 400 people are marked as “attending” the event as of this writing.

Pence is, of course, notoriously anti-LGBTQ+ rights. He has repeatedly voted against anti-hate crime legislation in Congress, and he’s expressed support for amending the Constitution to ban same-sex marriage.

Pence also has allegedly expressed support for conversion therapy in the past, and earlier this year he got into an on-again off-again spat with Olympian Adam Rippon that never ceases to entertain.

Though this dance party sounds like a must for anyone in the Columbus area, it’s far from the first time LGBTQ+ activists have gracefully trolled the VP.

Last year, Werk For Peace attracted 200 people to a dance party at Pence’s rental home in D.C., and last December Pence and his family were greeted by neighbors with “Make America Gay Again” flags on a vacation to Aspen.

More than Two Thousand People Showed Up For Gay Pride At Mike Pence's Hometown

Vice President Mike Pence’s hometown had its first ever gay pride event, and its all thanks to an 18-year-old high schooler.

Erin Bailey, the 18-year-old in question, came up with Columbus Pride as a school project. Her school, the Columbus Signature Academy, has a mandatory policy where students have to "explore endeavors that fuel their passions and to act as a bridge between a student's high school experience and his or her future goals" before they can graduate.

Bailey, who identifies as bisexual, decided that she wanted to create a project that could better her community, but in order to pull it off she needed the community’s help. Bailey created a GoFundMe campaign and soon raised $6,000. Then before she knew it, April 14th came and the event was underway.

The event was RSVP’d by over 1,000 people on Facebook and double that amount showed up on the day of the event.

In order to entertain all those people, Bailey had to organize some events such as the appearance of Drag Queen Oriana Peron or the giving away of a Marlon Bundo book, the story of a gay rabbit that parodies the children’s book written by Mike Pence’s daughter.

All of the excitement and fun was welcomed and appreciated by most, if not all, of the guests as they told WCPO Cincinnati.

Love is Love

A post shared by Tony Vasquez (@tony.vasquez_) on

Even conservative and religious townsfolk like Ann Jones, who was there to represent the First Presbyterian Church of Columbus, could feel the love in the air.

"I believe so much in unity and the divine presence of God in everybody," Ann Jones said.

In addition, LGBTQ citizens, like 18-year-old Job Willman who grew up in a religious household, were especially touched by the Pride event.

"Growing up queer is -- it's been a little rough," attendee Job Willman told WCPO. "But I think with events like this and continued support and trying to educate people, people like me can grow up better."

Unfortunately though, the three hour Pride event soon came to a close and the weather took a turn as it began to pour. That said, as the townsfolk walked away with rainbow flags high (mostly to protect from the rain), most left feeling better than when they arrived.

As for Erin Bailey, she was beyond thrilled by how her high school project turned out. She was so happy that she was unbothered when she heard news of a message from the Vice President.

"Vice President Pence commends Erin Bailey for her activism and engagement in the civic process," press secretary Alyssa Farah told CNN. "As a proud Hoosier and Columbus native, he's heartened to see young people from his hometown getting involved in the political process."

In fact, she was very unbothered as she told Bustle.

"We're here, we're queer, and we're not going to listen to his agenda," she said. "He does not define our town. Columbus is Columbus."

Charlotte Pence Says She Loves John Oliver's Parody Book

By now, you’ve probably heard of John Oliver’s parody book that mocks Vice President Mike Pence.

If you haven’t, here’s a little refresher.

Comedian and late-night talk show host John Oliver got word that Mike Pence’s daughter, Charlotte Pence, was releasing a book about their family’s pet rabbit named Marlon Bundo. The book is titled Marlon Bundo’s A Day in the Life of the Vice President.

Oliver then decided to play a little prank by publishing his own book about Bundo, but this time Marlon Bundo’s gay. The title of his parody is called, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver Presents a Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo.

The idea was to focus on Mike Pence’s controversial views on homosexuality and his formerly outspoken support of conversion therapy.

As Pence told his audience on Last Week Tonight, “This is not an adult book telling Mike Pence to go f**k himself. Although that’s exactly what you would be doing by buying it.”

But if this Instinct writer may take a moment with you all to look at the whole picture, it would be remise of us all not to acknowledge that John Oliver is also mocking Pence’s daughter in this act.

As we soon learned, Oliver’s parody book is outselling the original, and that directly mocks the good intentions of Charlotte Pence. Of course, you could also argue that Charlotte Pence directly benefits from the deeds of her father and has not openly protested them, so its fair play in a way.

But, it looks like neither of those points matter as Charlotte Pence has now come out to say that she loves John Oliver’s parody of her book.

A post shared by Marlon Bundo (Pence) (@marlonbundo) on

As she told The Hill,

“I have bought his book. He’s giving proceeds of the book to charity, and we’re also giving proceeds of our book to charity, so I really think that we can all get behind it. It doesn’t have to be divisive. I think that everybody can come together over Marlon.”

It seems that proceeds from Charlotte Pence’s book will go towards Tracy’s Kids, a charity that provides young cancer patients with art therapy. Meanwhile, Oliver’s book will give its proceeds to AIDS United and the Trevor Project.

“I also want to support those charities - I really mean that,” Charlotte Pence added.

So, it seems that when all the laughing is said and done, Charlotte Pence was the most mature out of the group. And, some great organizations will be better off.

Gay Bunny Outsells Mike Pence!

Gay Bunny Outsells Mike Pence!

John Oliver’s Gag Book Battles The VP!

#SHADE! You may be familiar with the Easter Bunny or Peter Rabbit, but have you heard of Marlon Bundo? Inspired by iconic actor, Marlon Brando, Bundo is the pet rabbit of painfully awful Vice President, Mike Pence, and his family. I’m a regular watcher of ABC’s The View and recently had to suffer through Charlotte Pence plugging the children’s book. The only time I had a reaction was listening to the audience barely clap upon discovering they would all be going home with a complimentary copy! The book goes through a “day in the life of the Presidential bunny”. Is this bunny trying to escape? Are there armed guards, a love story, crazy owls?! No, unfortunately it is not a reboot of the terrifying children’s film The Secret of NIMH, instead it’s just a drawn out, lame attempt at a connection with society. So, of course it get’s parodied by a handful of celebrities, but…girl, why did the parody of Bundo – a gay bunny – OUTSELL the original material?!

As it turns out, Comedian and Late Night Television Host, John Oliver, accompanied himself with writer, Jill Twiss, and Illustrator, EG Keller, to create a gay version of Pence’s bunny who has a completely different adventure in his day at the White House. Literally – hilarious! Oliver revealed his parody of the children’s book after speaking of Pence’s horrible view of the LGBTQ community.

According to the Huffington Post, Oliver's version hit number one on the Amazon Children’s chart and even has an audiobook narrated by The Big Bang Theory’s, openly-gay actor, Jim Parsons, among other celebrity voices.

For what it’s worth: Pence’s book money will head to charities such as Tracy’s Kids and A21, an art program for children and fighting human trafficking, respectively. I believe this is a win for everyone, since we get to take yet another stab at the Trump Administration…and all of the proceeds of the book are going to The Trevor Project as well as AIDS United Charity, which support LGBTQ youth. So, in the event, we’re all kind of winning.

Whether we want to admit it or not, Charlotte Pence seemed to have a sense of humor over the book’s parody. She posted a photo to her social media claiming she believes her Bundo looks great in a bow tie and complimented the charity donations. Check out the photo below:

If you want to hear more, you’ve got to check out Oliver hilariously telling Ellen DeGeneres all about the parodied book in the clip below:
